Career Firefighter

The Red County Fire Department (RCFD) is seeking qualified members of our community to serve as Career/b], equivalent to Full-Time, Firefighters. Career Firefighters provide a valuable service to their communities by leading Volunteer Firefighters at a variety of emergencies including structure fires, medical emergencies, traffic collisions, floods, rescues, and a variety of other types of emergencies.

Firefighter Functions
Firefighters are hired full-time at their assigned Fire Station. They are responsible for performing firefighting and emergency medical services (EMS) duties; and as necessary provide guidance to Volunteer Firefighters; and to learn other duties as required.

Engine Companies
Firefighters assigned to Engine Companies receive training to respond to structure fires, wildland fires, traffic collisions, incident support, and medical aid emergencies.

Rescue Ambulance
As required, career firefighters can be assigned to a Rescue Ambulance in order to respond to structure fires, wildland fires, traffic collisions, incident support, and medical aid emergencies.

Employment Status
Career Firefighters are hired full-time by the RCFD. Careers must successfully complete the Department’s Basic Fire Academy as a condition of employment in addition to acquiring Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) accreditation.

Salary
Firefighters receive a flat hourly wage rate according to the the job description.


CAREER FIREFIGHTER

The Red County Fire Department (RCFD) will be accepting applications for the position of Career Firefighter. Please review this entire page for important information.

ELIGIBILITY
  • In order to be eligible for the position, the applicant must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be an U.S. Citizen
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Possess a valid Class C San Andreas Driver License or out of state equivalent
  • Submit to a background check
    Note: no experience required.
MERITS:
  • A by the RCFD recognized equivalent Basic Fire Academy certificate of completion
  • A current, valid San Andreas or National Registry Paramedic License will be accepted in lieu of a current, valid San Andreas or National EMT License.
ORAL INTERVIEW
Candidates who pass the eligibility criteria are invited for an oral interview with the Blueberry Fire Station of RCFD.

BIDDLE PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAMINATION:
Candidates who pass the oral interview will be invited to the Biddle Physical Ability Test (BPAT). The BPAT will be coordinated by RCFD and held at a nearby Red County College and proctored by an independent third-party college staff.
Note: possession of a current BPAT Certificate not older than six (6) months can be substituted for this portion of the selection process.

TRAINING & STANDARDS:
Candidates who successfully complete the selection process and are chosen for employment with the RCFD must successfully complete a comprehensive, firefighter trainee academy.
Candidates must complete the Red County Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) Accreditation process.

EXAMINATION:
The RCFD utilizes a practical examination.

PROBATION
The RCFD withholds the right to hire Volunteer Firefighters on a probationary period of maximum six (6) months ((6 days)).

READINESS AGREEMENT
The RCFD expects the Career Firefighter to provide both Fire and Rescue or EMS as required at their Fire Station at all times. Career Firefighters are also expected to act as mentors for Volunteer Firefighters.
